The ‘Shimgam Kolvil ‘Hindu Temple in ‘Le Moule’, Guadeloupe, was founded by the Chingan family to provide a place of worship and spiritual gathering for the faithful. This iconic site hosts a variety of religious ceremonies, including the festival of Shiva and Divali, the festival of lights. These events include offering rituals, including puja, which are conducted by both local pujaris, such as Eli Shitalou, and pujaris from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Temple’s main deities include Shiva, Ganesh, Durga, Kali and Lakshmi, sculpted by Trinidadian Ramshud Badiodid. The deities of Hanuman and Sarasvati were brought from southern India, enriching the spiritual heritage of the place.
Claude Chingan’s mother has transmitted the values of Hinduism to her children, ensuring that the community’s practices and spiritual values live on. The Chingan family continues to play an essential role in the preservation and transmission of Hindu culture in Guadeloupe.
